TEHRAN (IQNA) – Morocco’s National Syndicate of Travel Agencies has boycotted Umrah Hajj travels to Saudi Arabia after Riyadh decided to increase the charges for the trip.

Moroccans Boycott Umrah Hajj

Saudi Arabia, which is struggling financially due to the falling oil prices and the rising cost of launching a deadly aggression on Yemen, recently decided to raise the charges for Umrah trip to 2000 Riyals.

The Moroccan Syndicate of Travel Agencies slammed the decision, saying it would stop sending Umrah pilgrims to Saudi Arabia, according to al-Quds al-Arabi.

The syndicate said with this Saudi move, many Muslims could not afford the trip.

It called on Moroccan travel agencies to stop sending pilgrims to Umrah Hajj unless Riyadh reconsiders its decision.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims flock to Makkah to carry out the Umrah, also known as minor Hajj.

Umrah is a pilgrimage to Makkah performed by Muslims that can be undertaken at any time of the year, in contrast to Hajj that must be performed in the month of Dhul Hajja in the lunar Hijri calendar.
