TEHRAN (IQNA) – The final stage of the 20th edition of Kuwait’s national Quran competition began in Kuwait City on Sunday.

This round will continue for two weeks with the motto of "appreciation for Quran activists”, Abdul Rahman al-Hashash, a member of the organizing committee said.

It is being held in two separate sections for men and women on memorization and Tajweed recitation of the Quran, he said.

Al-Hashash added that a total of 879 men and 956 women have made it to the final round, KUNA reported.

He went on to say that a number of Kuwaiti Quran experts residing outside the country have joined the panel of judges for the first time.

The national Quran competition in Kuwait is held annually with the aim of promoting Quranic activities and identifying Quranic talents in the Persian Gulf country.

Since its first edition in 1997, some 25,000 Kuwaitis have competed in the final rounds.
