TEHRAN (IQNA) –  A Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist was arrested Sunday in the group’s last stronghold of Mosul, a security source was quoted as saying.

Speaking to Alghad Press website, the source said the crime prevention bureau in Tal Afar “arrested a terrorist who was working for Daesh as a fighter at a security checkpoint in Tal Afar district in Nineveh.”

“The terrorist was arrested with documents proving his affiliation with Daesh in his possession,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi security media center announced that a Daesh hotbed was destroyed during a security operation in Salahuddin province.

According to the center, the hotbed comprised 28 grenades and other materials used for making bombs.

The Daesh terrorist group appeared on the international scene in 2014 when it seized large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria, declaring the establishment of a “caliphate” from Mosul city.

Later, the group became notorious for its brutality, including mass killings, abductions and beheadings.

Despite the group’s crushing defeat at its main havens across Iraq, Daesh continues to launch sporadic attacks against civilians and troops with security reports warning that the militant group still poses a threat against stability in Iraq.
