TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Arbaeen Cultural Committee has organized five specialized forums in English, Arabic and Persian in the holy city of Karbala about different aspects of the annual pilgrimage.

The first session of the cultural program on the occasion of Arbaeen was hosted by the committee on October 24.

The other seminars will be held from November 8 to 10. It will also include a specialized session for women.

Academic figures and experts from different countries have been invited to participate in the forums.

They are held as pre-meetings for Arbaeen International Conference, which will be held in 2019 in Tehran.

Arbaeen comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

In the past few years, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world took part in the mourning ceremonies in the Iraqi holy city marking Arbaeen.

Arbaeen falls on Tuesday, October 30, this year.
