Custodian of the holy shrine Yusuf al-Shaikh Radhi made the remark during a visit to the mausoleum by Sayyid Ala al-Musawi, head of Iraq’s Shia Waqf Board.
He said 95 percent of restoring and gilding the northern minaret has been done and work on the southern minaret is underway.
Radhi added that the mausoleum’s gate and Iwan (a rectangular hall or space, usually vaulted, walled on three sides, with one end entirely open) will also be gilded after the end of the current project.
The mausoleum is one of the holiest sites in Shia Islam visited by millions of pilgrims from Iraq, Iran and other countries very year.
