TEHRAN (IQNA) – Algeria’s Awaqf Minister said online Quranic courses have been launched for summer this year in 48 provinces of the country.

Youcef Belmehdi said the summer courses aim to teach Quran memorization and Tajweed skills to learners of different age groups, the radioalgerie.dz website reported.

He added that they are part of the ministry’s activities to promote teaching the Quran.

They are held online to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the official further said.

According to Belmehdi, the ministry has also launched the second phase of a Quranic plan in which 110 Quran experts teach recitation skills to some 10,000 learners.

Algeria is an Arab country in North Africa. Muslims make up about ninety-nine percent of the country's population.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of the disease, many Quranic programs in different countries have gone online.
