Arbaeen March Owed to Martrys’ Blood

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iraq’s prominent Shia Cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, has urged for keeping the names and memories of martyrs alive during the Arbaeen ritual.

In a message on Wednesday, Ayatollah Sistani offered several recommendations to those individuals who participate in this year’s Arbaeen processions.

The grand Ayatollah recommend individuals who run moukebs and hold mourning ceremonies to adequately laud the bravery and sacrifices of those in the battlefield who are manifesting the teachings of Imam Hussein (AS) in the path of fight against oppressors.

The top cleric also pointed to the need for hoisting the pictures of martyrs in the path of Arbaeen march so that all participant understand that holding such a ceremony has become possible thanks to sacrifices of these martyrs.

Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

This year, Arbaeen falls on September 27.
