Egyptian Doctor Writes Quran in 3 Years
Dr. Mohamed El-Greitly is a professor and Head of the Department of Orthopedics at the Faculty of Medicine of Port Said University while also a master of Arabic Calligraphy at the Port Said Institute of Arabic Calligraphy.
It took him 3.5 years to write down the Holy Quran and he described this effort as “hard and sweet”, according to Ahlmasrnews.com.
Calligraphy of the Quran was a great responsibility as it needs extra care, he said, adding that he has used Naskh script which requires the calligrapher to write too many words in a limited space while also maintaining the distance between them.
“Despite all difficulties of the calligraphy, I feel at peace as ink and pen remove worry and sadness,” he said.
The doctor noted that he would start writing the Quran whenever finding an opportunity between his various roles in the university or medical centers. “I would write one or two pages of the Quran in two or three days.”
Lauding calligraphy as a historic and authentic art, El-Greitly noted that modern technologies have not eliminated this art.
He suggested that holding exhibitions and teaching calligraphy to others can revive the position of this art.
