Egypt Names Winners of Int’l Quran Competition

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Top winners of Egypt’s 29th international Holy Quran competition were announced by the panel of arbiters.

They will be awarded in a ceremony slated to be held this evening at a hotel in the capital, Cairo, Youm7 website reported.

A total of 108 Quran memorizers and reciters from 58 countries, including 33 African countries have attended the international event.

Named after late qari Sheikh Mustafa Ismail, it started in the Egyptian capital on Saturday, February 4.

Seven Quran experts from Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Chad and Oman were the members of the panel of arbiters.

The winners in different categories are as follows:

Maher Mohammad Abdul Nabi Farmawi fom Egypt and Abdullah Izzedin Abdul Rahman came first and second in the first category, which is the memorization of the Quran and understanding of its concepts for men and women under 45 years old. The winner and runner-up will receive 250,000 and 150,000 Egyptian Pounds respectively.

The second category is the memorization of the Quran and understanding of its concepts for families. At least three members of each family should be Quran memorizers. Ahmed al-Ziyat, Saleh al-Ziyat and Khanum al-Ziyat are the members of the winning family who will be awarded 250,000 Egyptian Pounds.

The third category is the Quran memorization, interpretation and application in other sciences for participants under 45 years old. It was won by Mohamd Ahmed Abdul Ghani Daghidi from Egypt who will receive 150,000 Egyptian Pounds.

Memorization of the Quran with seven Qira’ates for participants under the age of 50 is the next category with the top prize of 150,000 Egyptian Pounds. The winner in this category is Hamada Mohamed al-Sayyed Khatab from Egypt.

Abdul Samad Adam from Ghana and Fatima Shaya Zahir from Maldives came first and second in the fifth category, which is memorization of the Quran for non-Arabic speakers under the age of 40. They will be awarded 150,000 and 100,000 Egyptian Pounds, respectively.

The next category is the memorization of the Quran for people with disabilities. Participants should be under 35 years old. Asma Adil Sayyed Ahmed came first and will take home 100,000 Egyptian Pounds.

In the seventh category, memorization of the Quran and understanding its vocabulary and interpretation for kids under the age of 15, Mana Ahmed Saad Abbas Muhaysan from Egypt was named the winner and will get 100,000 Egyptian Pounds.

The final category is dedicated to exemplary memorizers and the winner was Mustafa Muhammad Mustafa Abdullah from Egypt.
