TEHRAN (IQNA) – Director of al-Iraqiya Quranic Institute along with a delegation from Iraqi Hajj mission visited the Iran’s Hajj mission in Makkah to offer condolences over the deaths of Iranian Quranic figures in last week’s crush in Mina.

During the visit, Sheikh Rafi al-Ameri, the Iraqi Quranic official, extended condolences to Head of Iranian Hajj Mission Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Ali Qazi Askar, and expressed sympathy with Iran’s Quranic community over the tragic incident.

Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar and Amin Bavi, both members of the Iranian Quranic delegation to Hajj, were among at least 239 Iranians who lost their lives in the crush in Mina, near Makkah, on Thursday.

Hajihassani Kargar finished first at Malaysia’s 57th International Quran Competition back in June.

It is estimated that over 2000 Hajj pilgrims from different countries died in the Mina incident.

Some 240 Iranian pilgrims, including three other members of Iran’s Quranic delegation- Hassan Danesh, Foad Mashali and Mohammad Saeed Saeedinejd, are still missing following the tragic crush.
