MSTF, COMSTECH Sign MoU Aiming to Boost Scientific Coop. in Muslim World

TEHRAN (IQNA) – COMSTECH the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC and Mustafa(pbuh) Science and Technology Foundation (MSTF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding early this month.

 

The MoU was inked to support the development of collaborations between the two organizations with the overall aim of the advancement of science, technology, and innovation in the Islamic World on February 4, 2022.

The document seeks to encourage discussions and cooperation between the two organizations and individual scientists and employees within each organization in relation to opportunities for collaborative research activities.

The MoU underlines the joint commitment of COMSTECH and MSTF to work together to secure the achievement of shared aims and objectives.

The key areas of collaboration include jointly promoting the use of cooperation approaches and modalities in development policies and the public and private domains; consulting with each other on identifying best practices in the use of technical cooperation methodologies in their respective activities in the areas of science and technology, socio-economic development, rapid industrialization, and other related areas of common interest; exchanging documentation and information material on experiences in the promotion of technical cooperation in their respective fields of competence; and so on.

Under the requirements of the MoU, COMSTECH and MSTF are to regularly keep each other informed of and consult on matters of common interest, which in their opinion are likely to lead to mutual collaboration.

The two bodies also signed an agreement for joint young scientists’ fellowship program.

The agreement aims to nurture the young generation and build their capacity in the production of science, technology, and innovation in line with the values and needs of the Islamic society.

According to this agreement, COMSTECH and MSTF are to run a program to support the fellowship of young scientists with the cooperation of prestigious scientific and research institutes and research centers of reputable companies in Islamic countries.

Through this agreement, COMSTECH and MSTF are aimed at exchanging new scientific and research findings through networking, streamlining, and strengthening international relations to help develop science and technology in the Islamic world; Deepening and institutionalizing communications, scientific collaborations, and international knowledge exchange between researchers of the Islamic world and prestigious scientific and technological centers and research centers of reputable companies; Developing scientific achievements, improving the quality of researchers' studies, and expanding border of knowledge; and so on.

The program intends to support eligible young scholars and technologists under 45, those holding master's degrees, and faculty members applying for the short-term (6-12 months) fellowships. At least 50% of the total fellowships may be granted to young scholars of the OIC least developed countries and 50% to young women scholars.
