TEHRAN (IQNA) – Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Shahriari says condemning the normalization of ties with the Israeli regime is one of the main topics of the 36th International Islamic Unity Conference.

In a press conference on Sunday, Shahriari, who is Secretary General of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, briefed on the programs of the international conference.

He felicitated the auspicious occasion of the birthday anniversary of the holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH) and Imam Sadiq (AS).

He noted that webinars of the conference had already started on Sunday with the participation of dozens of Islamic scholars.

According to Shahriari the focus this year is to find practical mechanisms for Islamic unity, peace and avoiding division and conflict within the Islamic world.

Just war and peace, Islamic brotherhood, countering terrorism, accepting religious consensus, empathy and sympathy, mutual action among various Islamic schools of thought, and condemning normalization of relations with the Zionist regime are among other main topics of the event, he added.

Shahriari noted that Muslims’ unity and solidarity was the main message of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and that the unity of Muslims was the innovative vision of the late Imam Khomeini.

Pointing to some historical events, the cleric said that the main objective of the enemy was to undermine the unity of Muslims.  “The United States of America and its cronies have always tried to divide Islamic countries.”

Turning India into India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, and the Ottoman Empire into Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Turkey were among related plans of the West, he said, noting that the enemy seeks to implement the same plan in other countries such as Syria, Iraq, and Iran.

Elsewhere, he noted that a number of regional conferences on Islamic unity is also set to be held in Lebanon, Pakistan, Iraq, and Syria in a few months.

Talking about the 36th edition, Shahriari said that the conference will officially open on Wednesday morning with a speech by Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi, followed by speeches by foreign guests.

Some 200 foreign guests from 60 countries and 100 Iranian guests will address the conference in person and virtually, he added.

The guests will visit the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini on Wednesday afternoon before attending the general assembly of the conference on Thursday.

Participants will meet with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Friday before concluding the event by issuing a statement.
