The Najaf Holy Quran Institute for Women, affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS) has organized the contest, Al-Kafeel website reported.

Minar al-Jabouri, head of the institute, said women Quran memorizers and Quranic figures from different governorates of the Arab country are taking part in the Quranic event.

She said the contenders were briefed on the competition’s regulations and assessment criteria at the opening ceremony.

According to Jabouri, the participants have made it to the contest after winning the preliminary stage.

They compete in the category of memorization of the entire Holy Quran, she noted.

The Astan of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine and its affiliate centers and institutes have in recent years organized various Quranic programs, including Quranic courses and competitions.

They attach special significance to promotion of Quranic activities for women, seeking to spread the teachings of the Holy Book among Iraqi women.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
