TEHRAN (IQNA) – Nigeria’s 37th international Quran competition will be held in the northwestern state of Zamfara, starting on December 16.

The state government of Zamfara said it has concluded arrangements for host the contest.

State Deputy Governor Sen. Hassan Nasiha made this known at the opening ceremony of the State Quranic recitation competition held in Gusau Tuesday.

Nasiha assured of the state government’s readiness to provide all needed financial support for the smooth running of the competition and accord the necessary hospitality to guests.

“As a sharia state, our government is giving due regard to the institutions of Sharia and will provide all that is required to conduct both state and national Quranic recitation competitions successfully in the state.

Also speaking at the event, the guest speaker Dr. Atiku Balarabe, called on citizens of the state to demonstrate the teaching of Sharia by according hospitality to the visitors coming to the state.

Balarabe said we must obey the teaching of Quran as the highest book of respect to achieving peace and tranquility in the state and nation as a whole.

According to the secretary, state Quranic recitation competition, Malam Sadiqu Sadiq, the 26th state annual competition will feature 367 persons from across the 14 local government areas of the state

He added that the guidelines for the competition, featuring seven categories, are that participants must not be more than 25 years of age, must represent their community of origin, and must have the ability to recite fully.
