Titled Qarabeen an-Nasr, it was organized by Thiql al-Akbar Quranic Institute, according to Qaaf news agency.

The Cultural Campaign Council affliated to the Hezbollah Brigades of Iraq supervised the two-day competition, which started on Friday.

Senior figures from Astans (custodianships) of Iraq’s holy shrines took part in the inauguration ceremony, which began with recitation of verses from the Quran by renowned qari Sajjad al-Maliki.

The ceremony also included a program in commemoration of Iranian and Iraqi commanders Lt. General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis who were martyred in a US attack in Baghdad in January 2020.

Representatives from 12 governorates of Iraq as well as members of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) and students of Quranic centers took part in the contest.

The Thiql al-Akbar Quranic Institute is a major Quranic center in Baghdad that has four branches in other parts of Iraq.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
