TEHRAN (IQNA) – The representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Hajj and pilgrimage affairs, underlined the importance of cultural and propagation activities about the Arbaeen pilgrimage.

Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Abdol Fattah Navab

Speaking at a meeting of the cultural and educational committee of Iran’s Arbaeen Headquarters on Wednesday, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Abdol Fattah Navab said cultural, propagation, and educational programs and use of the cyberspace in promoting Arbaeen should be a priority.

He also said that in order to better organize the Arbaeen pilgrimage, a pathology of the pilgrimage held in previous years should be done.

The cleric referred to some problems facing the pilgrims in recent years and noted that after the easing of coronavirus-related restrictions, a large number of pilgrims took part in the annual Arbaeen march in 2022 and this year, too, a large number of people are expected to go on the pilgrimage.

Hence, efforts should be made to identify and remove the possible problems and challenges, he stated.

The annual Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.

It marks the 40th day after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS). This year’s Arbaeen fell on September 17.

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

The pilgrims, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to the holy city.
