TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Quran refers to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) by two names: Muhammad and Ahmad.

Muhammad (PBUH), the messenger of God

But it also uses more than 30 attributes to refer to the Prophet (PBUH), making him one of the most central Quranic figures.

The name of the Prophet (PBUH) is Muhammad and the Quran mentions him with this name four times: In Verses 144 of Surah Al Imran, 40 of Surah Al-Ahzab, 2 of Surah Muhammad and 29 of Surah Al-Fath.

The name Ahmad is also used in Verse 6 of Surah As-Saff when Prophet Jesus (AS) talks about the next messenger of God:

“Jesus, son of Mary, said to the Israelites, ‘I am the Messenger of God sent to you. I confirm the Torah which is in existence and give you the glad news of the coming of a Messenger who will come after me named Ahmad.’”

In addition to these names, there are attributes mentioned for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in different verses of the Quran, including:

There are two words used in the Quran to describe the Holy Prophet (PBUH) about whose meanings there are different opinions among interpreters: Yaseen and Taha.

“Yaseen, and the Quran, the Book of wisdom, you (Prophet Muhammad) are truly among the Messengers sent.” (Verses 1-3 of Surah Yaseen) Some interpreters says Yaseen is made of two words: Ya (O!) and Seen that is used to address the Prophet (PBUH).

As for the word Taha, it has been narrated from Imam Sadiq (AS) that the word is among the names of the Prophet (PBUH) and means “O! One who is seeking the truth and guiding toward it.
