Iraq’s Holy Sites Covered in Black on Anniversary of Holy Prophet’s Demise

BAGHDAD (IQNA) – Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims have travelled to holy cities in Iraq on the anniversary of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) demise and Imam Hassan’s (AS) martyrdom.

The holy shrines of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf and Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS) in Karbala have been covered with black banners on the sad occasion.

Different mourning rituals, religious speeches and other programs are held at the holy shrines on this day.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), which is also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, is implementing a major security plan to ensure the security of pilgrims visiting the holy cities.

The 28th day of the month of Safar (the second month in the lunar Hijri calendar) marks the anniversary of the passing away of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as well as the martyrdom of Imam Hassan (AS), the second Shia Imam.
