CAIRO (IQNA) – The grand imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center lauded the bravery and courage of the people of the Gaza Strip in the face of intense Israeli attacks.

Al-Azhar chief Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb

In a message on Monday, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb sent greetings to the “heroic” people of Gaza who are withstanding warplanes, warships, and missiles with their faith.

He called on the Palestinians in Gaza to get inspiration from the Holy Quran, citing Verse 139 of Surah Al Imran: “Do not be discouraged or grieved. You alone will have true dignity if you only are true believers.”

He further condemned the atrocities being committed by the Zionist regime and its relentless bombing of homes, mosques, churches, hospitals, and schools in the Gaza Strip and murdering women, children, journalists and other innocent civilians.

Sheikh al-Tayeb also praised the stances of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in calling for an end to the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

He called on all noble people of the world not to remain silent but to denounce the barbaric massacre of people in Gaza.

He also urged the governments of Arab and Muslim countries to help their brothers and sisters in Palestine in the face of Israeli crimes.

The Israeli regime launched the war on the Palestinian territory on October 7. The regime has also cut off fuel, electricity, food and water to more than two million Palestinians living in the coastal territory. Israel has killed more than 8,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, ever since.

The bloody war machine ignited when the regime was caught off-guard by Operation Al-Aqsa Storm by the resistance movement Hamas on that October day.
