Time for Unity for Establishment of Independent Palestine: Al-Azhar

CAIRO (IQNA) – Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center said the time has come for all of the world’s freedom-loving people to unite for putting an end to the worst and longest occupation of a land in history.

In a statement released on Wednesday, marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Al-Azhar stressed that the world must unite and make efforts for creation of an independent Palestinian state.

Al-Azhar reiterated its support for the Palestinian people in defending their cause.

It also caused for exposing the brutality of the Zionist regime against Palestinians and the regime’s violation of international laws, rules and conventions.

The statement noted that the Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip have been suffering in the face of Israel’s genocide, its blockade of the coastal enclave, targeting civilians and attacking hospital, mosques, churches and schools.

It also noted that over 15,000 Palestinians, including 6,000 children and 5,000 women, have so far been killed in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

The statement praised the world’s freedom-loving people for taking to the streets in cities across the world to voice their solidarity with the Palestinian people, calling on them to continue their efforts for putting an end to the Israeli violations, aggression and blockade of Gaza.

Various programs, rallies, and ceremonies were held in different countries on Wednesday on the occasion of the United Nations International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

The annual observation on November 29 marks the day in 1947 that the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on partitioning Palestine.

The International Day has been commemorated since 1978. 

This year, it took place against the backdrop of war on the Gaza Strip.

Palestinians in Gaza are suffering “a humanitarian catastrophe”, said UN Secretary General António Guterres in his message for the Day.

“Almost 1.7 million people have been forced from their homes – but nowhere is safe,” he said, while also warning that “the situation in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, risks boiling over.”
