IQNA – The preliminary round of the 14th national Quran memorization and recitation contest for Iraqi elites got underway in the Arab country on Wednesday.

It is being held in the categories of memorization and recitation of the Holy Quran.

The competition is annually organized by the National Center for Quranic Sciences affiliated to the Iraqi Shia Awqaf Department, in cooperation with the Astan (custodianship) of Kadhimiya holy shrine.

Top contenders in the fianl round will represent Iraq in international Holy Quran competitions.

The motto of this year’s edition is “Representing Iraq A Source of Pride for All”.

According to Rafi al-Ameri, head of the National Center for Quranic Sciences and head of the organizing committee, 60 of the contestants in the preliminary stage who have the best performance will make it to the final round.
