IQNA – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has denounced actress Selma Blair for making anti-Muslim comments on social media and urged her to apologize and learn from the Muslim American community.

Blair sparked outrage when she posted a comment on Instagram that said: “Deport all these terrorist supporting goons. Islam has destroyed Muslim countries and then they come here and destroy minds. They know they are liars. Twisted justifications. May they meet their fate.”

She also reportedly liked other posts that expressed anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant views.

CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said in a statement that Blair’s remarks were hateful and ignorant, and that she should apologize and engage in dialogue with the Muslim American community.

He also criticized the double standards in Hollywood, where artists who support Palestinian human rights are often blacklisted or boycotted, while artists who support the Israeli occupation and oppression of Palestinians are tolerated or praised.

CAIR said it has received 3,578 complaints of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian discrimination and harassment in the last quarter of 2023. In one incident, a man in Austin, Texas, assaulted a group of Palestinian American Muslims who had participated in a pro-ceasefire rally.
