Nat’l Quran Contest for Youths Kicks Off in Brunei Darussalam

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The preliminary round of Brunei’s national Quran competition for youths got underway on Wednesday.

The Youth Centre in the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, is hosting the contest.

Fifty-four male qaris and 46 female qaris are vying for spots in the semi-final round through the four-day competition organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The top 30 participants who score of 80 and above out of 100 will qualify for the semi-finals on June 11.

The top five male and female qaris from the semi-final, alongside champions from 2022, will compete in the finals on June 22.

The competition is an annual event organized by the ministry since 1980. It has served as a platform to help young Quran reciters to be able to compete at higher levels, while also showcasing their ability in the field of Quran recitation with tarannum.

Eligible participants are those aged between 15 and 30, citizens and permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam who have not won on international Quran competitions.
